Multi-award winning vocalist and songwriter, also one of the most respected female voices in bluegrass music, JEANETTE WILLIAMS was honored Sunday with the 2009 SPBGMA FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR AWARD (Traditional category) during the 35th Annual SPBGMA Bluegrass Music Awards held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel in Nashville.
Dixie Hall was in attendance for the awards ceremony and was thrilled with the announcement saying, “Tom T. and I are so very proud of Jeanette’s Traditional Female Vocalist win at SPBGMA. We have loved her and Johnny for years. The sweetness tripled with the realization that she is on our Blue Circle Records with her successful THANK YOU FOR CARING project and is “Proud To Be A Daughter of Bluegrass” on the new BLUEGRASS BOUQUET. One of the most touching moments I have experienced was when, as Jeanette stood holding her award, Dale Ann Bradley came flying through the lobby, arms outstretched, to grab and hug her fellow Daughter, tears of joy streaming down both faces…a genuine expression of love!”
Jeanette is receiving critical acclaim and chart success for her new Blue Circle Records album, THANK YOU FOR CARING, an album many are calling her best career album to date. The CD is currently #5 on Cashbox Magazine’s Top 25 Rockygrass Chart, consistently appearing on the weekly Roots Music Bluegrass Report; the current single, “Bad Money,” climbing the Bluegrass Unlimited Top 30 Single Chart; and the track “Your Memory Wins Again” being named one of Bluegrass Radio Network’s Top Picks of 2008.
strong>Lee Michael Demsey, morning Host at BluegrassCountry.org and WAMU Radio in Washington DC and the Proprietor of the Charts at Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine enthusiastically stated, “Wow, great news that Jeanette Williams took home SPBGMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year Award! There are a lot of good vocalists out there right now, male, female, traditional, contemporary, but I can’t think of anybody more deserving, at this moment in their career, than Jeanette. Those crystalline, soulful vocals of hers really hit home, especially on her new CD, Thank You For Caring – the best of her career, and one of my five favorite CDs of the year! Congratulations!”
This award adds to Jeanette’s numerous Awards and Honors including her original song “Enough of You,” which received the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest Award in the bluegrass division at Merlefest; the IBMA Recorded Event of the Year Award for her work on Back to the Well by the Daughters of Bluegrass; and numerous awards and recognitions from the Virginia Folk Music Association.
