One of bluegrass music’s favorite couples, Shannon and Heather Slaughter, are proud to announce the birth of a new son, Jedediah (Jed) Smith Slaughter. Their new baby joined the family on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in Birmingham, Ala, much to the delight of his older sister Rae.
Heather will be coming off the road to spend more time with the couple’s two children, however she will be a guest on the new Shannon Slaughter & County Clare album releasing later this year. Heather will be lending her exquisite harmony vocals, singing lead on another track, and joining Shannon on a highly anticipated Porter & Dolly duet. The band will begin recording in March at Eastwood Studios in Virginia.
Bluegrass Today calls Shannon Slaughter “a rare bluegrass triple threat: a gifted and disciplined songwriter, a robust and evocative singer, and a substantial guitarist, on both rhythm and lead,” so fans will no doubt be anxious to hear his 10 original songs on the 14 track album.
Shannon and Heather’s current album, Never Just A Song, garnered numerous #1s for both the album and singles in 2015. They achieved the #1 spot on Sirius XM Bluegrass Junction’s Most Played Albums, #1 on the AirPlayDirect Top 50 Bluegrass/Folk Albums Chart, and spent 6 weeks at #1 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Bluegrass Album Chart. The album also made an impressive showing garnering the #4 position on the Roots Music Report’s Top 180 Albums of 2015.
Two tracks from Never Just A Song, “That’s What’s Good in America” and “Moonshiner,” appeared on Bluegrass Today’s Top 30 Songs of 2015. “That’s What’s Good in America” was also the #1 song last August on Sirius XM Bluegrass Junction’s Most Played Tracks and #1 on the Bluegrass Today Weekly Top 20 Songs last July.
