California’s Huck Finn Jubilee Music Festival is back in 2018

West Coast’s Largest Bluegrass Festival Under New Ownership

Ontario, CA: For over 40 years, the annual three-day music festival in Southern California, Huck Finn Jubilee, delivered acts from a long list of luminaries such as Ralph Stanley, Alison Krauss,
Del McCoury, Punch Brothers, Rhonda Vincent, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Emmylou Harris, Peter Rowan, and more. After a one-year hiatus, the festival will return to Ontario, CA on October 5, 6, and 7 in 2018 under new owners Nikki and Roger.

“It’s important that we honor the tradition of this festival because the community deserves it and we want to take you on the musical journey that we experienced” says Nikki and Roger. The couple, both executives at an experiential marketing firm in Los Angeles, attended the festival in 2016 and were impressed with the music, array of activities for people of all ages and overall positive vibe. When they heard the festival wasn’t going to return in 2017, they purchased the brand and built their dream team of industry experts in hopes of keeping the festival alive and maintaining the high-level of quality its fans and the community deserves.

Entering its 41st year, the 2018 Huck Finn Jubilee will offer the entire festival experience featuring traditional and progressive bluegrass music, local food, craft beer, a unique array of
handcrafted arts and crafts, access to beautiful park amenities, camping, fishing and general family fun.

Volume Five’s Drifter Debuts on Billboard’s Top 10 Bluegrass Albums Chart

album-cover-volume-five-600Volume Five made its debut this week at #5 on Billboard’s Top 10 Bluegrass Album Chart with their impressive new project Drifter.  The album is receiving rave reviews including Parcbench Magazine saying it “raises the bar on their already impressive reputation.”

The first single release, “I Am A Drifter” written by Donna Ulisse and Marc Ross, continues to garner radio chart success.  It is the current #1 song on the Bluegrass Today Top 20, #7 on the Sirius XM Bluegrass Junction’s Most Played Tracks for June, and debuted this month on Power Source Magazine’s Top 35 Songs Chart.  Drifter is also crossing over to other formats; the track, “When I Go Away,” is today’s POWERPLAY song on Eagle Country Radio. Drifter is available to radio stations worldwide at AirPlayDirect.com.

“Volume Five can please a fan who just wants to hear a bluegrass beat with a pleasant melody, but the rhythmic interplay between the instruments can enthrall a more sophisticated listener after multiple hearings. It’s a special skill, and may ultimately be the one thing that eventually allows this talented quintet to rise to the top, a la Blue Highway,” said Bluegrass Today in a recent album review.

This impressive group is led by Glen Harrell (fiddle & vocals) who is joined by Harry Clark (mandolin & vocals), Chris Williamson (bass & vocals), Patton Wages (banjo & vocals), and Colby Laney (guitar & vocals).

Drifter is available at numerous digital outlets, VolumeFiveBG.com, mountainfever.com and more fine retail outlets.

Volume Five Receives International Bluegrass Music Association and GMA Dove Award Nominations

Volume Five

VOLUME FIVE is celebrating award nominations today from two separate organizations. As announced in a press conference by the International Bluegrass Music Association, VOLUME FIVE received an Award Nomination for Emerging Artist of the Year. At the same time, the 46th Annual GMA Dove Award Nominations were being announced live from Lipscomb University in Nashville where VOLUME FIVE was honored with a nomination for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year for “Daddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man” featuring Rhonda Vincent written by Dolly Parton and Dorothy Jo Owens.

I am just overwhelmed and completely grateful to the members of these two organizations for honoring VOLUME FIVE with these award nominations,” said band leader, lead vocalist and fiddle player Glen Harrell.

Dove-ticketingDaddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man” appears on the band’s chart topping album, VOICES, on Mountain Fever Records. Label President, Mark Hodges said, “I knew as soon as I heard this song that it was something special. It’s like Glen Harrell and Rhonda Vincent were born to sing together.” Winners of the 46th Annual GMA Dove Awards will be announced October 13, 201 at the Allen Arena at Lipscomb University in Nashville. For more information and tickets, please visit http://www.doveawards.com.

ibma_awardsWinners of the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards will be announced at a red carpet event to be held at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, Memorial Hall in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday, October 1, 2015. For tickets to the Awards show and the IBMA World of Bluegrass, please visit ibma.org.

Much to the delight of VOLUME FIVE’S loyal fans, SiriusXM Bluegrass Junction re-aired the group’s Track by Track with Host Kyle Cantrell earlier this month. In April, VOICES was the #1 Most Played Album and “Dream Softly” was the #1 Most Played Track on the program. “Dream Softly” along with four other songs (“King of California,” “Faithfully,” “Going Across the Mountain,” and “Colder & Colder”) have repeatedly charted on the popular Bluegrass Today Top 20 Song Chart since the album’s release earlier this year. VOICES is also currently appearing on the Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine’s Top 15 National Bluegrass Survey Top 15 Album Chart with “King of California” climbing again this month on the publication’s Top 30 Song Chart.

Mountain Fever Records Announces the Release of Voices from Volume Five

Mountain Fever Press Release:

Mountain Fever Records announces the release of Voices from Volume Five, available today.

_MG_2458Founded in early 2008 by vocalist and fiddle player Glen Harrell, Volume Five includes the talents of Harry Clark (Mandolin & Vocals), Chris Williamson (Bass & Vocals), Patton Wages (Banjo & Vocals,) and Colby Laney (Guitar & Vocals.) These five musicians together truly blend into a band with staying power. “When I put this group together, I knew the style of music I wanted us to play and the goals I wanted to achieve,” stated Harrell. “It was just a matter of finding the right guys who wanted to create their own identity in the industry. I didn’t just want us to be another band that moves onto the scene and is gone in a few years, but one that would have a unique sound that players and listeners would remember for many years to come – one that sounded like no other band in the business.”

album-cover-volume-five-voices400wVoices is the band’s fifth album and features 12 tracks of carefully selected songs, showcasing the many facets of musical tastes that come from within the decidedly bluegrass ensemble—traditional, classic, and on-the-edge—this CD covers it all. The album features the vocal and instrumental prowess of each V5 band member along with the added talents of Jeff Partin who plays Dobro and also contributed three original songs (“Satan’s Ridge,” “Faithfully,” and the first single, “Crazy Night”). V5 guitarist Colby Laney brought two original songs (“Going Across the Mountain” and “Sam’s Gap”) while the album is rounded out with cuts written by noted country artists Hal Ketchum, Jedd Hughes, and Dolly Parton, whose classic “Daddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man,” is sure to be a standout track with the addition of Rhonda Vincent sharing the vocal spotlight with V5 ring-leader, Glen Harrell. Produced by Aaron Ramsey and recorded at Mountain Fever Studios, Voices is already receiving rave reviews from radio programmers and media:

“There’s not a bad cut on the album but I’ve been featuring “Crazy Night,” written by Jeff Partin. I also like the rousing gold-mining saga “King of California” that kicks off the album and the remake of Dolly Parton’s “Daddy Was an Old-time Preacher Man” featuring Rhonda Vincent on guest vocals.” – Wayne Rice, KSON – FM

“The new Voices project is a must have bluegrass CD. Superb vocals and top notch instrumentation make this a pleasure to listen to. From songs of heartbreak to songs of faith – 12 tracks of bluegrass done just as it should be!” – Joe Stutzman, Heartland Bluegrass

“Voices is bluegrass at full strength…it fits my definition of a great bluegrass album: one that reminds me why I fell in love with the music all those years ago.” – Jerome Clark, Editor, Rambles.net.

“Voices is the perfect title from the V5 gang because their voices have never sounded better! A mix of original songs with a few covers, you will just want to put on some headphones, lean back, shut your eyes, and just hear the “Voices” of Volume Five.” – Gene Skinner, Great Stuff Bluegrass

The track listing for Voices is as follows:
1. “King of California”
2. “Going Across the Mountain”
3. “Dream Softly”
4. “Crazy Night”
5. “Strangest Dreams”
6. “Daddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man” with Rhonda Vincent
7. “Satan’s Ridge”
8. “Colder and Colder”
9. “Sam’s Gap”
10. “Amanda”

Two Rivers, Wisconsin concert series ends

I was very sad to hear of the closing of the B.K. Productions bluegrass concert series in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.  I had the opportunity to travel to one of the concerts years ago when one of my clients, Blue Moon Rising performed (pictured above in a photo by Mike Morebeck —– L-R Justin Moses, Keith Garrett, Tim Tipton, Chris West, Justin Jenkins).  After working with producer, Brad Klabunde, over the phone for many years, it was very nice to finally meet him and his wife Janice.

Brad Klabunde

Over the years, Brad’s enthusiasm for bluegrass music certainly was evident in his successful concerts.   He was able to get some of top award-winning bands in bluegrass music at this series.  Most recently the event was held at the Two Rivers High School.

Unfortunately Brad has made the hard decision to cancel the concerts due to numerous reasons, the most obvious being the economy, cost of fuel for these national touring acts, but also a problem that other promoters around the country face – competing with local free shows.  At concert series like Brad’s, of course, promoters have to charge for tickets.  That is how these national touring bands get paid.

Just some of the artists that have made their way to Brad’s show were: Carrie Hassler, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Charlie Sizemore Band, Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier, Blue Moon Rising, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, Special Consensus, Newfound Road, Mark Newton Band, James King Band and so many more.

Congratulations to Brad, Janice, and all of their sponsors and volunteers for a job well done for so many years!
