Shannon Slaughter’s new album Hold On To Your Heart released today and is loaded with original material, innovative instrumentation, soaring harmonies, and creative arrangements. It’s a must have to add to your music collection.
On Saturday, January 25, Shannon Slaughter & County Clare (Ron Inscore, Trevor Watson, Owen Piatt, and Matt Wingate) will hit the stage at the world-famous Station Inn in Nashville to celebrate the new album.
Shannon is a musical cat, according to Tim Stafford and writes most of his material. Shannon contributed his songwriting talents to 9 of the 18 tracks including two he co-wrote with Stafford – “Stack The Bodies High” and “Death Angel.” Shannon’s songwriting, harmonies, instrumentation, and arrangements are all at the forefront of his records and live shows.
Shannon Slaughter, on lead vocals and guitar, brought together an impressive list of talent including two of his three children Rae and Call.
Ronnie Bowman, on lead and harmony vocals, and Shawn Lane on fiddle, lead and harmony vocals co-wrote “Lonesome Wind” with Shannon and are featured on the track. “Shannon has truly become of the best songwriters and singers in bluegrass music. Once again, he has proven it with this album. I always look forward to singing and playing with him on his projects,” Shawn Lane.
Ronnie Bowman said, “Shannon Slaughter’s Hold On To Your Heart is a wonderful collection… filled with great songs, stellar musicians, and heartfelt singing that blesses the soul.” The other stellar musicians include: Lou Reid – Harmony vocals; Randy Kohrs – Resophonic Guitar, Harmony Vocals; Aubrey Haynie – Fiddle; Trevor Watson – Banjo, Harmony Vocals; Ron Inscore – Mandolin, Harmony Vocals; Matt Wingate – Mandolin; Owen Piatt – Banjo; Kameron Keller – Bass; Jason Davis – Banjo; Doug Jernigan – Pedal Steel Guitar.
The first single release from the album was “The Devil’s Broom” written by Shannon Slaughter and Mark “Brink” Brinkman.” The song made its debut on the Bluegrass Today Top 20 Weekly Song Chart on December 6. “When I first heard Shannon Slaughter in the mid-90’s, he was already an experienced picker and singer, playing guitar with Larry Stephenson and pitching songs. Since that time, he has consistently gotten better as his career has gone along, becoming a true powerhouse guitarist and one of the top writers in bluegrass music. This strong record gives a perfect example,” said John Lawless, Bluegrass Today.
